SF Weekly Interview, Great American Show Pics

We got a nice interview in SF Weekly just now, and you can read it here.

We also just played at the Great American Music Hall with Whiskerman and Papa Bear a few weeks ago. Nice venue. Nice people. Pics are courtesy of Kimberly Varney Photography, unless otherwise noted.

2015 Year in Review

2015 was a pretty darn great year for Scary Little Friends. We signed with Randm Records, which enabled us to provide merch and CD’s to our fans and are currently helping us release our new EP, “Silent Revolution” (Jan. 29th). This post is dedicated to Paul who has done so much to help us. Here’s a list of last year’s highlights:

Record Signing

4/15:  Signed a deal with Randm Records and finally printed CD’s for From the Beginning. We can say we are legit now and mean it.

5/30:  Mateel Summer Arts & Music Festival was really our first festival appearance and it was just an incredibly beautiful weekend full of amazing food, music, and art as the name does imply.

6/5:  Played Leo’s for the first time in Oakland with the Coffis Brothers. Our East Bay people came out and supported in great numbers. We can’t wait to play there again soon!

6/16:  Opened for Delta Spirit at the Lagunitas MiniAmpitheaterette on our bassist Jon’s birthday. Definitely one of our greatest moments as a band was when we got asked to come on stage and sing “Don’t Let Me Down”. Chris also got to split the vocal on Harvest Moon. Big thanks to Johnny Lightning and Caroline at Lagunitas for taking us under their wings and showing us the way!

6/19:  Davis Music Fest is an awesome DIY festival that takes over the whole town. The 100-degree heat was offset by amazing Sudwerks beer and the French Cassettes killed it. Check this festival out!
11692583_1153929621290922_7085540987406025697_n7/11:  Phono del Sol Festival was also an incredible experience. The folks at BayBridged have been so good to us, and this was probably one of the most beautiful days in San Francisco that we can recall.

7/25:  Smiley’s in Bolinas is a hidden gem. You can tell people about it until you’re blue in the face, but the fact is you just have to be there to experience it. There is nothing more mellow and cleansing for the soul than late-night beach combing:)

8/29:  Our first time headlining at the Crazy Horse Saloon in Nevada City was made extra-special by our homies Fred Torphy & the Spirits opening and then all our friends Alex and Kevin from Boca do Rio bringing out their people to support us after cooking amazing feijoada and chilling alll dammmn day. Next day in the Yuba river was amazing, too.

9/5:  Oh, Fernwood. You are too good to us. What better way to spend Labor Day than by relaxing in Big Sur and playing for a wild bachelorette party. Highlight:  86-year legend Carmen refusing to get off the dance floor when her family tried to pull her away from the music.

9/19-9/22:  We had the amazing opportunity to jump on a leg of Roger Clyne & the Peacemaker‘s tour. 4 shows in 5 nights gave us a taste of what it’s like to be in a legendary party band, and we were treated great by the band and their fans. Who could ask for more?

10/30-10/31:  Halloween was extra-special this year because we got to meet Roky Erickson in Bandit Town at VertigoFest and then played again at the Miner’s Foundry Fright Night with local legends Achilles Wheel and Soft Bombs. Our costumes pretty much sum it all up.

11/1:  Playing for the first time at the Chapel in San Francisco was a milestone for us. Great sound, great staff, and the incredible Ben Caplan made it magical.

11/19:  Our second time opening a sold-out show for Boy & Bear was not a disappointment. Meeting the legend Aaron Axelsen and then playing one of our strongest sets of the year made it extra-special.1604710_1251578644859352_8697669316347547663_n

12/13:  Playing a private party at Sweetwater Music Hall is one thing, but when you meet a long lost buddy who now heads the company you are playing for, then it gets insane. What a great party!

Crepe1.7.161/7:  OK, this is technically cheating but Chuck Prophet is one of our heroes and we had such a great time watching the master at work at the Crepe Place in Santa Cruz. We are lucky dudes:)

Happy New Year to everyone and we look forward to seeing you at a show in 2016!
